The restaurant never closed. It was an all-night cafeteria where you could get breakfast twenty-four hours a day. It was super busy because the breakfast cook always prepared meals perfectly—piping hot and delicious. The wait staff was friendly, efficient, and well-mannered. This restaurant ran like clockwork, all the time.

The owner never had to go into work because everything ran so well. The staff never left; in fact, the staff worked twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for no pay and with no need for rest or sleep. The owner didn’t have to feed the staff. They never got tired, didn’t steal money out of the register, and were never rude to customers. The staff could do all the ordering and bookkeeping as well. The owner didn’t have to provide healthcare or any other benefits. He did not have to pay Social Security taxes and did not have to give anyone a day off, ever!

Welcome to the world of robotics, coming to a job near you and eliminating the need for you. The robots we saw in The Jetsons and other cartoons in the 1960s are expected to be a reality by 2020. Robotics will be released into the mainstream, at first to the wealthy. But like any other technology, robots will get cheaper over time. Just go to YouTube and type in “robotics” to see what comes up.

These robots are designed to serve humanity in healthcare, therapy, education, customer service, and other applications. If you own a business and robots run your business for you, you will be free to do more of the things you enjoy doing. However, if the robot replaces your job, you will not be quite as excited about this innovation. But the robotics age is here and has been since the 1970s, when robots replaced thousands of auto assembly-line workers. Disruption 1.0 targeted what is called the unskilled labor force; Disruption 2.0 robots will target professionals. Entrepreneurship will be the new freedom, with robots running many businesses and not many people working jobs.

Robotics have been introduced into surgery, replacing skilled surgeons. This has lowered the number of mistakes made in surgeries that require a great deal of precision. Robots are encroaching on jobs in the service sector that require personalized skills, jobs that were largely thought to be safe from job loss. These robots are made to look human by using silicone and spider silk.

The private sector and many entrepreneurs are investing in robotics and artificial intelligence in order to create new robot designs that serve more industries. Our coding has advanced to the point where we have taught computers to think in much the same way humans do, using algorithms. Robots can add a layer of security to your business.

The fictional restaurant described earlier would never be robbed because the robots have cameras and systems that would alert law enforcement personnel right away and record the whole incident.
